Bridgerton

Bridgerton is based on the novels by Julia Quinn. Season one of the sassy, saucy drama follows the families of British high society during the regency era in England, and their quest for romance and marriage through the eyes of a mysterious gossip columnist, Lady Whistledown. Wealth, lust, and betrayal - Bridgerton is the definition of a binge-worthy show.

Behind Her Eyes

At first glance, Behind Her Eyes is a painstakingly slow-burning psychological thriller about adultery, substance abuse, toxic relationships, and living in the U.K.—which is seemingly enough weighty content to carry the mini-series through its six episodes. But the new Netflix show, based on the book by Sarah Pinborough, is much more than meets the eye, delving unabashedly and confusingly into subplots about lucid dreaming, astral projection, arson, and murder. The abrupt left turn into the show's final two episodes left many viewers wondering, "What did I just watch?".

The Queen’s Gambit

“Netflix limited drama series about addiction, obsession, trauma, and chess,” after reading that sentence, the first thing you’re likely to think is “Chess? Huh”. However, we’re here to tell you “The Queen’s Gambit” is a thrilling limited series on Netflix that you won’t be able to stop watching! The series follows the life of Beth Harmon, an orphaned chess prodigy on her rise to the top of the chess world while struggling with drug and alcohol dependency after being fed tranquilizers as a child.  As her success grows in the 1960s male-dominated world of chess, so does the pressure on Beth to succeed and become a grandmaster of the board game. This is the series we didn’t know we needed!

The One

Imagine a world where the pain of dating isn’t necessary and your DNA will instantly match you to your perfect soulmate, that’s the premise of ‘The One’. Following a few different threads you see how different relationships might change in a society where love can be determined by DNA, while also rolling out a murder mystery throughout. This show is the perfect balance between a relationship drama and a murder mystery. All whilst being set in a futuristic world not too unlike our own ‘The One’ will make you think from beginning to end.

Firefly Lane

Ending this list on a lighthearted note, ‘Firefly Lane’ follows Tully and Kate, two unlikely friends, from their meeting as tweens in 1974 to the present. Kate, the introvert, and Tully, the coolest girl in school, form an unbreakable bond that weathers every milestone in their lives, leading up to a tragedy in the present. Character development plays a huge part in this show, constantly jumping between three different timelines Tully and Kate as teens, late twenty-year-olds, and the present their forties. ‘Firefly Lane’ is a heartwarming show anyone with a BFF can relate to.
