The Perfect Mother's Day Guide
From traditional mums to adoptive mums, to step mums and single mums – to the dads, aunts, sisters, brothers and grandparents that have helped raise us, lead us and been there for us. Mother’s Day is the perfect time to shower the maternal figures in your life with some much-deserved love and attention. It’s a day for us to honour and celebrate these people, and tell them how much they mean to us.
To help you out this upcoming Mother’s Day, we’ve come up with a ‘Mother’s Day Guide’ to provide you with some inspiration.
Firstly, flowers! You can't go wrong with flowers and it's no secret that The Botanist doesn't stick to the traditional floristry rules. Every bouquet is carefully thought out, personalised, and unique! If you’re looking for a beautiful, big, bouncing bouquet to treat your mum this Mother’s Day then look no further. Their top quality bouquets are undeniably unique, fun and bold!
If your mum prefers experiences, then take her on an exotic escape without even leaving Auckland at SkyCity’s East Day Spa. Cocooned amongst flickering candles and the healing aromas of mystical lands, East Day Spa is a haven of calm where East meets West. East Day Spa currently has three Mother’s Day packages where you and your mum can relax and bond side-by-side, or you can simply treat her to some much needed and well deserved me time.
A key to the perfect Mother's Day is spending time together. If you're lucky enough to do so in these uncertain times then brunch alongside the ones you love is the way to go! But, you want to make sure you pick the perfect brunch spot as well. Located on the corner of Parnell Rd and Garfield St is Winona Forever, one of our faves and soon to be yours (if it’s not already)! Home to one of the best cabinets in Auckland, their beautifully presented and delicious food makes Winona Forever a go-to place for brunch.
There’s more to the City of Sails than urban dining, shopping and a trip up the Sky Tower. If you look further afield, you’ll find pockets of fruitful soil producing some of the world’s best wine. Cast in the sun’s rays with your mum at the beautiful Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant on Waiheke Island, less than an hours ferry from downtown Auckland. Choose between both casual and fine dining in the restaurants, or enjoy a wine tasting or tour. If you’re feeling adventurous, visit a few of the other beautiful wineries while you’re at it, some of our favourites are Stoneyridge, Cable Bay, and Wild on Waiheke.
We're blessed to live in such a beautiful city. While it’s easy to get caught up in a busy life, we forget there’s a whole paradise right outside our doorstep. And, walking is one of the best ways to make the most of the City of Sails. Our last recommendation, and something targeting those outdoors lovers is The North Shore coastal walkway takes you from Long Bay to Devonport in a six to seven-hour walk. With stops at Torbay, Browns Bay, Rothesay Bay, Murrays Bay, Mairangi Bay, Campbells Bay, Castor Bay, Milford, and Takapuna, however you can tailor the length of the walk to your liking. If your mum loves the outdoors and beautiful views this walk is made for her! Along the way you’ll see sights such as the North Shore City cliff tops, stretching blue views of the Hauraki Gulf, and a panoramic perspective of the Auckland City skyline.
As Mother’s Day approaches, many of us find ourselves shifting between the joy of remembering our mothers, and the pain of no longer having them with us. For all of you lucky enough to be with your mother or motherly figure on mother’s day, look after her, cherish her and remember all the little sacrifices our mums have made for us throughout the years.
