What’s My Ring Size? And How to Secretly Discover Your Partner’s: A LKC Guide to the Perfect Fit

What’s My Ring Size? And How to Secretly Discover Your Partner’s: A LKC Guide to the Perfect Fit

We believe a ring is more than just a piece of jewellery; it is a wearable symbol of devotion, crafted with intention and destined to belong. But before its beauty can meet your hand or theirs, there is one essential detail that must be perfected: the fit.

Whether you are commissioning a bespoke design, planning a once-in-a-lifetime proposal, or gifting a piece that holds sacred meaning, this guide will walk you through how to accurately measure your ring size and how to discreetly uncover your partner’s; without sacrificing the element of surprise.

Why Ring Sizing Matters More Than You Think

The right size is more than comfort; it’s about honouring the craft and sentiment behind the piece.

A ring that is too tight risks discomfort, daily inconvenience, or worse; being damaged during removal. Too loose, and the risk of losing something irreplaceable grows. To us, correct sizing is part of the integrity of the design: it ensures longevity, confidence and harmony between wearer and object.

We encourage clients to consider ring sizing as part of the ceremonial care they give to the process; an unseen, but deeply felt expression of reverence.

The LKC-Recommended Methods for Determining Ring Size

1. Visit a Trusted Jeweller (Our Highest Recommendation)

For the most accurate measurement, we recommend visiting a professional jeweller who uses calibrated tools such as a metal mandrel (for rings) and ring gauge sets (for fingers). This ensures a precise fit that accounts for both the finger base and the knuckle.

Visiting LKC studio in person is the best option as it will create a seamless experience from sizing to crafting where we can offer advice based on your chosen ring design and help you find a fit that feels secure yet unobtrusive. However if that is not possible due to being remote from Auckland, or outside of NZ - a reputable jeweller local to you will also efficiently assist with sizing.

LKC Tip: Your fingers can fluctuate slightly throughout the day. For best results, schedule your measurement mid-day when temperatures are moderate and your body is at rest (not just after a workout, flight or shower).

When you visit the LKC studio, we provide in-person sizing as part of your consultation.

2. Ring Sizing at Home (If Visiting a Jeweller Isn’t Possible)

If its not possible for you to visit a jeweller, we recommend using our guide below to help you select the best size possible from home.

This can be done in two ways:

Option A – Measuring the Inside Diameter

Use a ruler to measure the inside diameter (in millimetres) of a ring that already fits you well on the chosen finger.

  • Place the ring on a flat surface.

  • Lay a ruler across the centre of the ring at its widest point.

  • Measure the internal diameter (do not include the metal thickness).
Compare your result to our ring sizing chart [linked here or below] to determine your closest match.

Option B – Measuring the Finger Circumference

If you don’t have a ring to measure:

  • Wrap a piece of string (or dental floss) snugly but comfortably around your finger—exactly once.

  • Mark where the ends overlap.

  • Lay the string flat and measure its full length in millimetres using a ruler.
This gives you the finger circumference, which can then be matched to the corresponding size on our ring sizing chart.

Learn more about ring size in our sizing guide and begin your journey with confidence.

*Please note this is only a guide therefore we cannot be responsible for incorrect ring size determination. At LKC, we will make the ring size to match the exact details you provide us,  therefore we will not be held liable if it does not fit. However, in this case we will do our best to correct the situation by remaking it to the fit size. Some extra charges will incur regarding the sizing and shipping. How to Secretly Find Your Partner’s Ring Size

If you're planning a surprise proposal or gift, discovering their ring size without asking directly can feel like a delicate art. Here are a few discreet, tried-and-true methods to help guide you:

Borrow a Ring (Just for a Moment)

Quietly borrow a ring your partner already wears on the correct hand and finger (ideally their left ring finger). Place it flat beside a ruler and take a clear, close-up photo. We’ll be able to determine the inside diameter from the image and advise on the most accurate sizing possible.

Ask Someone Close

A trusted friend or family member can be your best ally. They may already know your partner’s ring size or be able to casually find out during a conversation; perhaps while shopping or admiring jewellery together. This method is more effective than you might expect, and keeps the surprise intact.

Use the Averages

If all else fails, consider starting with an average. Most women fall between ring sizes M to O. While not an exact science, it offers a reasonably safe estimate, especially for surprise proposals and a resizing can be organised at a later date.

Details That Affect Fit: What You Might Not Consider

Ring sizing is more nuanced than a single number. Here are some subtle but important details to consider:

Finger Shape and Knuckle Prominence

Some people have wider knuckles, requiring a ring that slides over but still fits snugly at the base. Others may have more uniform finger shapes and require a tighter fit to prevent slipping.

We balance both when determining your true size.

Band Width and Shape

Wider bands will naturally feel tighter. If your ring design features a thick or stacked band, we may recommend going up half a size for optimal comfort.

Temperature and Daily Fluctuations

Hands can swell with heat or movement and shrink with cold or rest. Always measure under average, temperate conditions; ideally mid-day, when your body is in balance.

International Sizing and Remote Clients

We work with clients across the globe. If you know your size in another system—US, UK, EU, HK—our team will convert it accurately. If you're unsure about your ring size, you can send photos and measurements of an existing ring for us to analyse.

In Closing: A Ring Meant to Belong

A ring is not simply worn; it is lived with. It becomes a silent witness to gestures, seasons, moments of intimacy and declarations of love. It should fit not only the finger, but the life, the rhythm and the story of its wearer.

When a ring fits with quiet precision, it vanishes into the self; neither tight nor tentative, but certain. As if it were always meant to be there.

This is why we consider ring sizing a sacred detail. Not a formality, but a gesture of care. A whisper that says: this was made for you—only you.

At Layla Kaisi Collection, we don’t just create rings. We craft personal artefacts of devotion; composed with reverence, fitted with intention and designed to feel eternal from the very first moment it meets your hand.

Because when it fits just right, it doesn’t just stay on.
It stays with you.
