7 Places to Propose This Summer

7 Places to Propose This Summer

A wedding proposal is one of life’s most memorable moments, it’s much more than just popping the question. Careful and strategic planning goes into this for everything to feel right in that perfect moment.

It’s no secret that we’re a bunch of hopeless romantics here at Layla Kaisi Collection, so we would love nothing more than to help those who have found the love of their life, found the perfect ring, and are now just in need of some inspiration for that perfect spot.

Luckily, the list for romantic locations in New Zealand is endless. Our picturesque beaches, vertiginous vistas and native forests are just waiting to serve as the backdrop for this special moment.

1. Cathedral Cove

Cathedral Cove is truly a place like no other. Here a gigantic arched cavern passes through white rock connecting two secluded coves. The cathedral-like arch gives the area an air of grandeur and is sure to take your breath away. Pohutukawa trees line the foreshore providing shade and the perfect viewing spot for that champagne sunset and baby blue ocean.

2. Queenstown

Queenstown is a place of great beauty, nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and overlooked by the majestic Remarkables Range. Whether you’re adrenaline junkies or old fashioned romantics, Queenstown has the perfect spot to get down on one knee. Adventurous types can helicopter to an awe inspiring alpine lookout for that special moment, or if that’s not your style set the scene with a sunrise hot air balloon flight before celebrating with a champagne breakfast in the field after your trip. The options are endless in New Zealand's very own city of love.

3. Waiheke Island

With pristine white sandy beaches and turquoise blue waters, gorgeous landscapes, world class wines, and fantastic cuisine, it’s easy to see why Waiheke Island is considered the Hauraki Gulf’s jewel. Although only 40 minutes from Auckland, you’ll feel like you’re a world away as you browse through art galleries, sample award-winning olive oils and soak in stunning sea views. Waiheke is also home to a number of stunning wedding venues if you’d like to double the warm fuzzy feelings by returning for your big day!

4. Te Mata Peak

One of the most loved and visited places in Hawke’s Bay. Different from the other views of crystal clear waters and lush greenery, Te Mata Peak offers a view of the countryside of New Zealand while the 360-degree view makes you feel like you’re on top of the world. Walk through the majestic hundred-year-old giant redwoods, and discover the deep cultural relevance and compelling history of this special place. If tramping is not your thing, you can also drive to the top of Te Mata Peak and stay fresh for that proposal.

5. Abel Tasman National Park

Clear, turquoise bays, abundant bird and sea life, and fresh, clean air surround you as you walk under the shady canopy of lush native forest. Birdsong rings through the treetops above, only interrupted by the call of the occasional small waterfall nestled in the midst of the park. Whilst summer is a popular time to visit, locals believe that the shoulder seasons are actually the best time to explore the park, as crisp mornings, calm waters and quiet beaches allow you to truly enjoy the peace and serenity.

6. Milford Sound

Deep within Fiordland National Park lies Milford Sound, New Zealand’s most stunning natural attraction. With its magical combination of mountain peaks, ink-dark waters and superb dramatic forest-clad cliffs, it must be seen to be believed. Pop the question while cruising the waters through otherworldly mists, or create a memorable moment in front of cascading waterfalls. Rain or shine, Milford Sound exudes a mystical element that no other place can achieve.

7. Tongariro National Park

The 80,000-hectare park is a spectacular showcase of volcanic wonders including emerald lakes, old lava flows, steaming craters, colourful silica terraces and peculiar alpine gardens. It is an environment of staggering beauty and diversity. While taking a day hike might not seem like the ideal time to get down on one knee,  we think it’s pretty metaphorical.  You’ll face changeable weather conditions and a challenging trek, but when you take it on together the rewards are phenomenal!

Every couple is different and look for different things when it comes to choosing a proposal spot. The most important aspect is that you both feel connected to each other in a place where you’ll be making an everlasting memory.
