A Love Letter to Sustainability: LKC's Commitment to Ethical Jewellery

A Love Letter to Sustainability: LKC's Commitment to Ethical Jewellery

Sustainability in 2023 is at the forefront of business practices. As it should be. However, sustainable practices have become a blanket term used to appeal to those of us who are ethically conscious. So here is our layout of exactly how we keep our practices sustainable and ethical at Layla Kaisi Collection.

At Layla Kaisi Collection, we're on a mission to change the way you see jewellery. For us, it's about more than just adornment; it's a story, a commitment, and a love letter to sustainability. Our journey transcends traditional jewellery buying; it's an intimate collaboration with you, our valued customers, as we walk together down the path of sustainable, ethical jewellery. In this love letter to sustainability, we'll explore how our commitment to quality, transparency, and eco-conscious practices sets us apart in the world of jewellery.

Our Craft: Handcrafted with Care

Every single LKC design is meticulously crafted in our workshop right here in Auckland, New Zealand. Our team of talented crafters, working in harmony, handcraft each piece from start to finish. What sets us apart is our dedication to quality. Each design goes through rigorous quality control checks to ensure perfection, ensuring that every piece that leaves our workshop is a testament to our craftsmanship and commitment to excellence.

Precious Metals: Recycling and Responsible Sourcing

We take pride in our sustainable approach to crafting jewellery. Each of our designs is locally crafted using precious metals recycled from the jewellery industry within Australasia. This reduces the need for new mining and lessens the environmental impact. Additionally, we utilise alluvial gold sourced from the South Island of New Zealand, further supporting responsible sourcing practices.

Diamonds: Ethical and Antique

Our commitment to ethical sourcing extends to the diamonds we use. We strictly collaborate with suppliers who adhere to the Kimberley Process, ensuring that all diamonds entering New Zealand are certified from sources free of child labour and conflict. But that's not all; we also have a deep appreciation for high-quality antique diamonds. These diamonds, hand-cut over a century ago, are often sourced from antique and vintage jewellery pieces. By upcycling these historical gems into new designs, we reduce environmental impact and waste while offering our clients unique and prestigious stones that have stood the test of time.

Precious Gems: Ethical Sourcing and Traceability

Our core value at Layla Kaisi Collection is to ensure that our designs prioritise human rights and ethical practices. We work directly with a select group of small-scale artisanal miners and cutters within Australia, the USA, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar. This keeps our supply chain direct and short, ensuring traceability and ethical practices at every stage. Layla personally selects our suppliers from trusted networks in the jewellery industry, and new suppliers undergo a thorough vetting process to align with our values and quality standards.

Packaging: Sustainability Beyond the Jewellery

Our commitment to sustainability doesn't stop with our jewellery. Even our packaging reflects our dedication to eco-conscious practices. Our proposal boxes are handcrafted in New Zealand using solid timber from sustainable and environmentally managed forests in Australia. This ensures that the balance and biodiversity of the surrounding areas are maintained. Each box is designed to have the same grain in the lid and base and finished with a stunning natural satin wax. Our remaining packaging is almost entirely recyclable and can be reused for storage and organisation around your home, contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle.
