The Ultimate Gift Guide For Last-Minute Shoppers

The Ultimate Gift Guide For Last-Minute Shoppers

Hello December!

The gift-giving season seems to have snuck up on 2022, and the most joyful time of year is ready to finish off the stragglers of the COVID pandemic years. Gift-giving is part of the essence of Christmas (alongside receiving of course) but is a lot easier said than done. One of our ultimate ‘go-to’s’ is jewellery - of course! It encompasses all the qualities of a good gift; it can be personalised, symbolic, usable and generally not something people would buy for themselves.

This Christmas, we chatted to one of the joyous, bubbly, holiday-esque personalities we know, LKC’s good friend Julia Leuchars (Marketing & Brand Communication Director at Trelise Cooper) to pick her brain for more delicious holiday treats to gift your loved ones!

“Julia, what does Christmas look like to you this season?”

“Christmas always sneaks up on me and I have the double whammy of pretty much all my family’s birthdays (MINE included) being clustered around Christmas and New Year – you’d think as a Capricorn I’d be more organised with my present buying but apparently, that’s one area of my life I like to leave to the last minute and in total disarray! In saying that I do have some go-to-gift ideas and my rule of thumb when buying a present is to ask myself whether I’d like to receive it.

I’m going to start with presents for men as I always find them the hardest – and to prove that point I have no idea what I’m getting my incredible partner! Suggestions, please!

I love to give experiences or a pampering treat that someone wouldn’t usually buy for themselves. I love the treatments at Sydney Beauty in Remuera, and they make the best gifts and Jayde has the most beautiful vouchers that are a treat to give and I know they will adore the experience in her beautiful salon. Obviously, this works beautifully as a gift for men or women – but it’s nice to pamper the boys every now and then! I also love all things Aesop, so they’re a great gifting option for me – their sets and individual items are so beautiful – the Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash and lotion are a go-to; I find this scent so heavenly and quite gender-neutral.

I also love giving plants and with my brother being based in London I love sending him a new plant baby from Patchplants.com – all their plants have the cutest names and a little brief sheet on how to keep them alive ( I may reference this website often!). Johnny Jungle are also a great NZ option with a beautiful range of plants and vessels!

The festive season is filled with dinners, parties, BBQ’s, garden parties and sleepovers at friends’ bach’s – and I love taking a little host and/or hostess gift to say thank you. Our Trelise Tea Towel sets are really lovely for this – and have the added bonus of being practical if you’re taking a plate or can nestle a bottle of RSRV champagne into your handbag nice and securely!

I also love giving the stunning Dior candles from the Dior Fragrance boutique in Commercial Bay. The packaging alone is absolutely stunning and the candles inside are so beautiful, and I think only available from that store. I also love the little leather charm bracelets from Louis Vuitton – they’re such a great gift and go with everything- especially a summer tan!

We have such cute Christmas gifting at work this year – so I’m thinking for my little gifts for my lovely neighbours I’ll be doing a mixture of our lovely little Trelise Make-up bags and Lunch bags – they’re always such a great present and perfect as a little something for girlfriends too. I also love putting together little hampers of goodies and treat to see someone through the festive season – who doesn’t like a tote filled with delicious morsels for when you suddenly have people drop around and a delish platter is required! I love putting together a lovely assortment of divine cheeses, some antipasti, a hint of something sweet and some seriously good crackers in a cute bag or tote – I might even go so far as to say it’s the perfect entertainer's gift.

As a splurge I love getting something personalised – the team at Louis Vuitton are amazing and helping select the perfect embossing to flawlessly personalise something special – I particularly love the little luggage tags or Passport wallets which are even more special now that we are all travelling again!

And I think it’s time … let's talk diamonds – who wouldn’t like something sparkly and delicious for Christmas! ( or any time of year!) a stunning piece of jewellery, be it classic and simple like a beautiful pair of stud earrings or something bespoke and outrageous – they will always be on any wishlist!

Now as for gifts for me…. Dear Santa I happened to spy this lovely piece at LKC which would sit so beautifully with my signet ring …. Just saying xxx”
